I’m a potter based in North Devon, three miles from the sea. I’ve been potting happily since 2015, first in a spare bedroom, and now in a studio in my back garden. Having worked in travel for nearly twenty years, I quit at the end of 2019 to become a full time potter. The following two years, strange as they were, gave me time and space to work on my pottery and develop my own designs and techniques.
I work almost exclusively in stoneware, throwing my pieces on the wheel and sometimes altering them to make different forms.
I create my own glazes and slips, using clay dug from Westward Ho! beach and from my own garden. Woodfiring has become a passion of mine - I love the effects of wood ash, flame, and heat on my pieces. I fire in an anagama kiln, which has an ability to create one-of-a-kind effects through the natural accumulation of ash and the play of fire.
